Super Pear Down is a website and video series dedicated to removing games. In today’s current retro video game market, prices continue to rise and many companies would rather enclose a game in plastic than actually let people play the damn game. Gaming to me is about the memories attached and the experiences …experienced. Staying up all night with your cousin because you couldn’t save your Mega Man X4 progress because you didn’t have a memory card. Putting Windjammers on at a party and watching people trash talk. Pizza parties spent exploring your friends consoles and libraries (for me, going to the Sega kid’s house). Playing party games in a hot tub (it was WarioWare for GameCube and it was as weird as it sounds).

It’s harder to have these experiences today because more and more people are closing the doors on playing these games. So I have decided to spread my collection out as far as I can and with as little barrier of entry as possible. My library is quite meager compared to most collectors, but I still have around 599 games in total. Of those 599, I’m looking to pass on at least 450 to anyone willing to participate in this experiment. Just remember, Spanky’s Quest is mine forever and I will be cremated with it.

My hope is that someone that is interested in retro games but cannot afford the hobby can maybe gain something from my experiment. Instead of just putting these on ebay for richy riches to bid over, I want to provide a service where everyone is welcome to participate. There is no way I could jump into retro gaming today with as high as the prices have gotten and I am thankful and lucky I started early when games were literally 1/10 of what they’re being sold for now. I can’t help and think of someone like me getting into this hobby nowadays and feeling discouraged; I want to do anything I can, no matter how small, to help them feel included in this community.

Games are more than money and plastic cases. Games are not museum pieces. Games are enjoyment, competition, friendship, challenges, freedom, and fun. And I want everyone involved.
